After-School Pottery

Club in Zurich

Six creative Monday afternoons with clay, colour and plenty of room for imagination

The After-School Pottery Club gives children and young teens the opportunity to explore ceramics in a relaxed and supportive studio environment.

Guided projects are combined with time to develop their own ideas. This allows children to learn the foundations of ceramics while building confidence in their individual creative expression.

No previous pottery experience is needed.

The next course block
Course dates:
24 August · 31 August · 7 September · 14 September · 21 September · 28 September 2026

Time: Mondays, 16:30–18:30
Age: 9–13 years
Group size: 4–8 children
Language: English, with support in German when needed
Price: CHF 450 for the complete course block

What will the children explore?
Over the six sessions, children discover different aspects of working with clay:

  • Pinching, coiling and slab-building techniques

  • Creating figures, vessels and small sculptures

  • Experimenting with coloured clay, slips, textures and glazes

  • Working with porcelain, depending on the project

  • Developing and completing their own ideas

  • A playful introduction to the pottery wheel

The programme is adapted to the age, pace and interests of the group. The pottery wheel is part of the exploration, but it is not the main focus of the course.

Pottery takes time
Creating ceramics involves several steps: shaping, drying, firing, glazing and firing again.

A six-week course gives children time to explore different techniques and experience the complete ceramic process. Some pieces are completed in one afternoon, while others are developed over several sessions.

What is included?
The course price includes:

  • 12 hours of guidance in a small group

  • Clay and, depending on the project, porcelain

  • Colours, slips and glazes

  • Use of all studio tools and pottery wheels

  • Storage of projects between sessions

  • Firing costs for up to 2 kg of finished ceramics

If a child creates especially large or numerous pieces, additional finished ceramics are charged at CHF 30 per kg.

Who is the course for?
The club is designed for children and young teens aged 9 to 13 who enjoy making, experimenting and developing their own ideas.

It does not matter whether they have worked with clay before or are trying pottery for the first time. The small group allows us to support different levels of experience and working speeds.
